When I updated my unlocked, unbranded HTC Desire to Android 2.2, I noticed that the “3G” icon had disappeared from the task bar, and I wasn’t able to access the internet at all from the handset.
After a bit of hunting around in the menus, I found out how to fix this:
- From the Home screen, press Menu
- Select Settings
- Select ‘Wireless & networks’
- Scroll down and select ‘Mobile networks’
- Select ‘Access Point Names’
- Tap the radio button next to your default APN (mine is ‘3’, pointing to three.co.uk)
- Press the ‘home’ button
Mobile data should now work on the phone again.
